Blog Analysis (draft)
Tyler Sutherland is a lot like other 20 something-year-olds in today's world. He has a lot of ideas, but very little ambition to do something with them. He's an expressive, articulate young man with a lot on his mind. Sutherland has no fear when it comes to sharing his feelings. He is open about his personal life, sometimes too open.
He uses his blog "American Dropout" as a means to express his thoughts, issues, and problems going on in his life. His blog is an escape from the ignorance and stupidity plaguing the world. And did I mention he's an avid pot smoker?
Hailing from Peroria, Illinois, Tyler Sutherland is a 24-year-old highly unmotivated, highly upaid father and husband (Sutherland). He's become disenfranchised over the years due to the corruption he sees in politics, media, and commercialism not to mention his shitty-paying job(undisclosed). He says "you lose interest in the puppet show after you've seen the strings" referring to the way the world works in a negative view(Sutherland).
Sutherland holds no real religious views; himself being the only entity he believes in really. "I probably don't believe in your god and it feels alright(Sutherland). This quote shows the reader just how much the author cares about their religious views. He's not a full on crumugeon, he does care a lot about his wife and 6-month-old son, Keegan, after stating he's been in love with her since he was 16 (Sutherland).
Turmoil plagued Sutherland's life on year (before he was married I'm guessing) when he slept with some teenager and got her pregnant. This became an example of how he gave the reader a very intimate glimpse into his life. The post "Alternate Title For My Attorneys 'less blatant libel.' ok" tells a brief narrative of his encounter with a woman named "Amanda" who he had a short affair with ultimately producing his son Keegan (Sutherland). The narrative also shows the expressive nature and anger towards this Amanda. She apparently is a crack whore who is trying to steal Sutherland's son away. Their relationship was based on orgasms and the fact they had a son together was the only reason they had anything to do with each other (Sutherland).
It seems this back and fourth struggle has gone through a legal battle, too. And although his distaste for his "baby's momma" is actively prevalent in his blog, he is still trying to get visitation rights to his son. This to me, is what makes a man a man. Accepting the fate. It takes balls for a man to raise a son he didn't want to have, a maturing process.
With the personal shenanigans aside, Sutherland also gives insight into events going on in the world. He reports on the injustices and wrongdoings in American society. When the scandal involving then Illinois Governor Rod Blagojavich, Sutherland posted a blog that expressed very little surprise. Sutherland, an Illinois native, acted very nonchalant towards this sham. He had a "I knew it all along" sense to this matter. Also, he reported on an incident out in Oakland where an unarmed black man was being detained near a subway station when a police officer "accidentally" whipped his gun out and fatally shot the man. Sutherland calls the incident "an inevitable result of systematic racism" (Sutherland).

Issues that Concern me
Here's a list of issues that bother me:
- Minimum Wage- it should be raised to at least $10 or more. These turbulent economic times call for an increase in the cost of living, thus the minimum wage should increase to meet the change.
- The cost of college tuition- Will I have enough to pay for college next year?
- Public smoking should be banned all together. For too long now, we have known the risks and the dangers of smoking. Its time to put an end to it
- Will there be jobs for me in the summer while im not at college
- Carlos Mencia-will anyone ever take him to court to punish him for being a comedy thief? Lars Ulrich sued the guy who started Napster for stealing music so why doesn't anyone sue Mencia for stealing jokes from such comic legends as Bill Cosby, George Lopez, and George Carlin?
- Pepsi- should not be sold at the same stores Coca Cola's sold at. It makes my kidneys want to commit suicide.
- Nick Cannon- he's married to Mariah Carey and I'm not.
- I hate girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch. thats about it

My list of Public Spheres
People love to be heard especially when they feel they have to complain, or draw attention to something. Here's a list of the ways people can bitch, moan
, and vent.

- Larry King Live
- A local open mic night at a coffee shop
- Facebook/Myspace/Blogger (naturally)
- Bulletin Boards on Campus
- Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous
- Support groups
- Talk Radio i.e. Bob and Tom, Dahlia, and Howard Stern
- Go out on the street with an acoustic guitar and sing about the world
- Any college course, challenge the professor and prepare for verbal assault
Little About Me
I'm a 2o year old online journalism major. Collge is my life right now. I live on campus and attend class Monday through Friday. I cover sports for the school newspaper, The Shield, and I sometimes write feature stories as well. Video games and parties are my usual weekend activities. Sometimes I'll catch a movie or feel creative and paint some shoes.
